Typographic Portrait
Due Date:
Exam Day: Tuesday, January 22, 2019, 8:22 am
PART 1: PRACTICUM (Project) (90% of Exam Grade)
Using the type tool of Adobe Illustrator, create a design that does the following:
- Incorporates your name and/or a short phrase
- The words are clearly readable
- The letters are altered and used for design purposes
- Fills the entire picture plane
- Uses pattern/repetition
- Uses visual movement
- Uses contrasts of size, tonal value, color, etc.
- Gives a sense of depth
- Has color harmony
Technical Directions:
- Created in Adobe Illustrator
- Size: Letter (8.5 x 11 inches)
- Has at least three layers in the layer palette: foreground, middle ground, and background
- May use opacity changes and mode changes (i.e. Multiply, etc.)
- May use pathfinder to cut letters
- Make sure that all type has been converted to outline
- Save as “type portrait yourlastname.eps” in Illustrator EPS format

PART 2: ESSAY (10% of Exam Grade) - to be written on exam day
In five short paragraphs, define each of the five design concepts listed in the grading criteria, and give specific examples of how you have considered and addressed/illustrated each of these concepts.
